The Stores

Have you ever wondered what it’s like behind the scenes at a museum? You’ll be able to find out if you visit The Stores!

Located in the higher higher half of the Carriage Works building, The Stores will be where objects that aren’t in the museum displays are held on open display. You will be able to view items relating to the Stockton and Darlington Railway (S&DR) and the development and operation of railways in North East England. The objects in The Stores will keep changing - so you’ll see something new every time you visit!

You will also be able to use the artefact and archive collections to research, investigate and explore the railways of the past as part of your studies or for general interest.

The Stores will also contain The Space - an area specially designed for community exhibitions exploring Darlington and the town’s railway heritage.
