Darlington Locomotive Works

The creation of Darlington Locomotive Works to house the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust created a space for the ongoing construction of new locomotives adding to the authenticity of the site and encouraging the engagement of the visitor with STEM and engineering.

There will be a brand new viewing platform where visitors can view the Trust repairing and building steam locomotives and live steam in action! The viewing platform will be accessed by a bridge over the live railway line connecting to the main Hopetown Darlington site. 

Did you know? Following on from the success of Tornado, the UK's newest steam locomotive unveiled in 2008, the Trust are currently building a brand new P2 class locomotive called Prince of Wales. It won't be long until you can come and see it's construction taking place.
