Skerne Bridge

The iconic Grade I listed Skerne Bridge, the oldest operating railway bridge in the world and a key player in the opening day of the Stockton & Darlington Railway (S&DR) on 27 September 1825, will be the start of the visitor experience for those arriving by car or those using the S&DR walking and cycling route.

Below Skerne Bridge will be the new car park for Hopetown Darlington with space for over 200 vehicles, including electric vehicle charging points. The car park will be operated by Darlington Borough Council and accessed from John Street.

Disabled parking will be located on McNay Street within 50 metres of the Goods Shed main entrance.
